Akuni Adventures has been operating since 1998, originally offering winter camping courses and winter trips. The company expanded in 1999 to offer comprehensive ORCKA canoe instruction programs, canoe trips and hikes. Akuni Adventures is staffed by highly skilled instructors and leaders. We pride ourselves on customer satisfaction, in fact, most of our trips and courses are filled with repeat customers.

Joe Bourgeois

Joe Bourgeois is the owner/operator of Akuni Adventures. His qualifications include ORCKA Level 2 Canoe Tripping Instructor, ORCKA Level 2 Lake Water Instructor, ORCKA Flatwater Instructor and ORCKA Canoe Tripping 2 Leader. He also has British Columbia Advanced Wilderness First Aid, Wilderness Medical Associates ‘Wilderness First Responder’ First Aid, Swift Water Rescue Technician and CPR. He has training in mountaineering, ski mountaineering, ice climbing, glacier travel, rock climbing, white water kayaking, sea kayaking, canoeing, sea kayak navigation, lifeguarding, swimming instructing, river rescue and calculus. Joe spent 4 months in the arctic on the northern tip of Ellesmere Island on an environmental cleanup program. He has climbed mountains such as Mount Athabasca, Mount Lynx and K2 (not the one you're thinking of). Joe has performed a winter trek pulling a sled down the coast of James Bay, canoed many major rivers in Canada and internationally in countries such as Belize and Australia. He has trekked many of the world’s greatest hikes such as the West Coast Trail BC, Milford Trek New Zealand, Auyuittuq Baffin Island, Gros Morne Newfoundland and Blue Mountain Park in Australia. Joe's travels have taken him to Iceland, Greenland, Germany, Belize, Guatemala, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Hong Kong, USA and Indonesia.
