Directions to Palmer Rapids

From Toronto Area:
Take Highway 401 east to Hwy 35/115. Stay on Hwy 115 past Peterborough to Hwy 7.
Head North on Hwy 134 to Hwy 28 north toward Bancroft.
Drive through Bancroft until Hardwood Lake. Take Hwy 514 North through Schutt.
At the stop sign past Schutt, turn left on Hwy 515 to Palmer Rapids. Go through the town of Palmer Rapids. Just before you go over the bridge over the Madawaska River turn left on ‘River Bend Road’
The road follows the river and then makes a sharp left turn. At the turn there is a dirt road straight ahead, take the dirt road into Jessup’s Campground - there is no Jessup camp ground sign except a painting of a canoe and a tent. If you arrive late at night we will see you in the morning by the Black Akuni Adventure canoe trailer.
You will be responsible for a camp fee of $15 per tent. Wood is $5 per bag. Parking fees may apply for the Tripping 2 class.


From Ottawa Area:
Take Highway 417 West to Hwy 132 (toward Renfrew). Travel west on Hwy 132 to where it ends at Hwy 41. Take Hwy 41 south to Denbigh.
In Denbigh turn west onto hwy 28 through to Hardwood Lake.
In Hardwood Lake turn north onto Hwy 514 and drive through Schutt.

8:30am am at the Akuni Adventures canoe trailer.

Accomodation:
Jessups camp ground is the most convenient camping area. However there are a few hotels in Bancroft.

Food:
In the town of Palmer Rapids there is a small grocery/liquor store and a local restaurant. Major food supplies are available in Bancroft or Barry’s Bay (40 minute drive).

Other Information:
You do not have to make a reservation for Jessup’s camp ground. Just drive in and setup camp somewhere. The camp ground is a cash business for Mr. Jessop…he’s a legend in the paddling community.

Late or Lost:
If you are lost or late, please call 416-410-7240, if no one answers please leave a message. If you are more than 20 minutes late we will check voice mail to see where you are. If there is no message indicating your approximate arrival time, the course will start with out you. Cell phone range is limited at Jessups, we may or may not be able to get the message.
